Lets Not Get Too Crazy Trying to Make Changes Right Now
Maintaining status quo is hard right now.
Last week when covid-19 got real in the United States I think a lot of us went into overdrive trying to think of how we could stay positive and use the pandemic and social distancing to our advantage.
I think we did this as a defense mechanism. A way to fire back at the coronavirus in an effort to not feel beat up by it.
I believe that overall this is a good approach and that we need to be thinking outside of the box and reaching and stretching ourselves in new ways in an effort to keep our minds and bodies healthy and forward thinking. Especially those of us who don't have work outside of the home to do. My job as a homemaker and an errand runner is all wonky now leaving me with a large void in my days to fill.
I also think that we should be careful to not set ourselves up for failure. We don't need any additional reasons to feel discouraged or self defeated at this time.
Yes, we have been given extra time to explore ideas, dreams and projects we have previously shelved because we didn't have extra time to dive into them. And this can indeed be an awesome opportunity to grow ourselves! However, we need to tread lightly.
It is important to use our time well right now in an effort to not fall into lousy habits that are going be hard to break when we re-enter real life! But on the flip side, we also have to give ourselves grace right now. If a new habit or project is going serve us well, then by all means we should go for it! But if it starts to make us crazy, or makes us feel like we aren't accomplishing enough, then we need to let it go - put the idea back on the shelf until we are ready to visit it again and move away free of guilt.
We need to be good at re-shelving what isn't serving us right now. This isn't permission to be lazy. No, no, no. It's only permission to be true to ourselves in weeding out what is useful and what is useless to us during this time of crisis.
I think maintaining status quo is good right now. It's enough! If you can add a cherry onto the top of the sundae then go for it! If not, the sundae will still be very good!
Silver lining for today: We currently have no excuse to not have our laundry all caught up! Two loads a day keeps the piles away!
